A street where everyone has a name

Naked will thou come to tis world,
And naked thou shall go.

When ashes are burnt, buried or blown away,
All that remains of thou shall be a name.

One's name is music to thy ears,
A name perhaps two or even three,
trigger my imagination.

A name is what you are christened with at birth,
Its all that you take away when you are gone.

A name is what you make when you have everything,
And its all you can keep when you have nothing.

On the mountain of hopes and aspirations, do we all stand,
Most of us look down and shout out our names,

But then there are others standing up there silently,
With the ones below calling the silent ones.

As I walk down the mountain onto the street of life,
I see people standing by the signboards,
On those signboards, do they hope to have their names.

And thus one day shall thy walk ,
walk on a street where everyone has a name.

Hi DJ,

Haven't been able to sign in for a while but am finally back on the circuit after the stupid e2 exams about whish, the less written about the better!

Now coming to your poem, I must say its marvellous as ever! I quite like the choice of theme.....a name....its not a very common theme and you have done full justice to that!

"A name is what you make when you have everything,
And its all you can keep when you have nothing." I simply loved this line.

But there's something I like to point out....it may be a sign of an inefficient critic but consider it just a point of view.....I couldn't quite figure out the link between the lines after the one I mentioned above to the rest of teh poem...kind of like a slight meandering away from the core theme. But I must you managed to round it off pretty well with the last couplet that connected the lines above it to the rest of the poem!

good one indeed and do keep the imagination flowing coz yours is surely running wild!

later now...cya!
